Try it now! =)

World of Goo is a very hard game to describe.
It is so different than anything you’ve ever seen, so crazy, and so fun.

It is also a very hard game not to love… once you’ve played it.
Luckily for everyone - a demo of the game is now available.
Download, play it, and love it. It’s that simple!

World of Goo and Me

It was January when I first wrote to the developers of World of Goo and said the video of their game looked cool and I’d love to talk about working together, or just about the future of games and society in general.

Then, because I often get lost in giant piles of work, I didn’t talk to them again until March - when I worriedly emailed and hoped that they weren’t already working with someone else to bring the World of Goo box to stores.

In my email, I wrote:

“I just finished Chapter 1, then used my 84 extra goo balls to build up to 13.9 meters. Awesome! I am really impressed with the production level and the sense of storytelling throughout the game so far. It gives very little information but has you hooked to wonder what’s next… Chapter 5 is the End of the World?!??!? Holy Crap!”

In the seven months since then, we worked hard to put together a truly unique and beautiful packaging to house the World of Goo CD for those who aren’t buying it as a download. We posted the box image, screenshots, and videos to Amazon. I went down to Bentonville, Arkansas to talk to Sam’s Club about bringing the game into their stores. Our sales team received commitments from GameStop and Best Buy, and is still working on other retailers to carry it as well.

I was lucky enough to be one of the first to get the full game. This was thanks to my bugging the guys that we were running out of time if we wanted to get World of Goo into stores before Christmas. I think they were nervous about actually admitting that after two long years the game was finally and officially DONE. They had nothing to worry about though, the game is AMAZING. I couldn’t stop playing until I beat every level, and even then I went back and played lots of levels over again.

Our company, Brighter Minds, works mainly on casual games (think: Diner Dash) and children’s games (think: Bob the Builder), but World of Goo was a title that we just could not pass up. I hope to continue to work with such unique and innovative games in the future, though it will be a looong time before we see anything as cool as World of Goo again. The music is incredible - it grabs you and pulls you in. The Goo characters are entirely too cute and the Sign Painter is hilarious. The storyline is truly bizarre, and the gameplay is non-stop fun. The game can be seriously difficult at times, but even kids love it, it’s great for all ages. It’s a game that is a joy to play with, even if you’re not succeeding - watching the tower you built start to lean slowly to one side… and then collapse. =)

World of Goo was a labor of love, made by two guys who have a nice mix of genius between them. Ron and Kyle put their blood, sweat, and tears into it - and what a beautiful game it turned out to be!

Goo balls - innocent and naive - they have no clue what they’re doing here.

Very curious, they climb higher and higher to explore their strange lands…

Help the Goo find their place in this crazy world as they build up and around obstacles, looking for answers, guided by messages from the mysterious Sign Painter.

What is the World of Goo Corporation? Who is MOM? And what’s next?

The World of Goo is an awfully large place for a single Goo to explore, but we are all in this together!
